The 52V battery pack uses a 14S configuration vs. the 13S configuration which is used for the 48V e-bikes. The industry has settled on the 48V system which is an artifact of the 12V lead acid battery infrastructure. Modern e-bikes almost all use lithium-based battery packs and do not really need to have voltages in the 12V increments.
Most battery packs found on the market are designed for the 10S or 13S configuration. To achieve the 14S setup, we needed to design our own packs to properly accommodate the added cells. Additionally all of the other parts of the bike needed to be upgraded to handle the increased voltage and power.
Another requirement for our design was that our 48V and 52V packs can be interchangeable and backwards compatible to avoid leaving customers stranded with obsolete e-bikes. All of our e-bikes produced now can take advantage of the 52V revolution.
What is the difference between the 48V and 52V RipCurrent S?
The ONLY difference between the bikes is the battery pack. The batteries are interchangeable and the controller is designed to properly handle both 48V and 52V pack voltages.
